Toyobo

Willemijn maakt naast fine art prints ook bij enkele werken gebruik van de Toyobo-techniek, een Japanse fotopolymeerdrukmethode, om haar foto's een gelaagde textuur en visuele diepte te geven. Ze begint met het overzetten van het beeld op een lichtgevoelige fotopolymeerplaat, die vervolgens met UV-licht wordt belicht. Door deze belichting ontstaat er een fijn reliëf in de plaat, dat met water wordt ontwikkeld. De resulterende plaat fungeert als drukvorm, waarmee het beeld op papier wordt overgebracht — vergelijkbaar met methoden uit de diepdruktraditie.

Wat haar in deze techniek aantrekt, is de manier waarop de precisie van fotografie wordt gecombineerd met de ambachtelijke rijkdom van het grafische procedé. Het proces vervaagt de grenzen tussen het digitale en het fysieke en verleent haar beelden een tastbare, haast tijdloze uitstraling.
