about
Willemijn Sieffers is a photographer and visual artist based in the Enschede.
Her work moves between photography and printmaking, with a focus on landscape, stillness, light and material.
Using the Toyobo photopolymer process, she transforms photographic images into tactile hand-pulled prints. Willemijn creates the plates herself by exposing her photographic images onto the Toyobo printing plates by hand — an essential part of her process in which photography is translated into print.
Through this process the image becomes more than a photograph; surface, ink, pressure and texture become part of the final work.
Nature is a recurring source of inspiration in her practice. Her images often emerge from quiet observation, with attention to rhythm, detail and atmosphere.
Each Toyobo print is handmade from beginning to end — from exposing the plate to the final hand-pulled print — and produced in a small edition.
Alongside her autonomous work, Willemijn creates projects in which photography connects with text, poetry and exhibition-making.
