Willemijn Sieffers

photography translated into unique, hand-crafted toyobo artworks

My work starts with something I see. A certain light, a colour, a shadow or a composition can suddenly stop me in my tracks. I photograph it instinctively because I want to hold on to what i saw and felt in that moment.

Sometimes a photograph is enough. Sometimes I feel there is more hidden in the image. That is when I turn to the slow, tactile Toyobo process to explore whether the atmosphere, beauty and emotional depth can be taken even further.

a photograph is only the beginning

Through the slow and tactile Toyobo process, I return to the image.

I work with photography, plate and ink to explore whether i can deepen what first moved me: the light, the atmosphere, the beauty and the emotion.
